Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes from a philosophical point of view the place and role of the „good“ in the economic sphere, using as a starting point the ethical aspect of this concept. The text has three parts. The first is devoted to the concept of „good“ and presents the main semantic aspects of the term and some of its features indicated in studies on ethics. The emphasis here is on the moral identity and axiological universality of the concept, which are seen as a basis for its application to the economic sphere. The second part is devoted to this application. The characteristics common to morality and economy are presented, as well as the grounds of their opposition; in this context, the author argues the place of morality and „good“ in the economic sphere. The article specially stresses the need for moral standards to be adapted to the specific field in which morality operates; this is specified in the third part, devoted to peculiarities of moral functioning in the economy at macro and micro level. Here the author discusses why, at macro level, morality is primarily present in its evaluative function, not as a regulator; this part also discusses certain features of evaluation as well as typical indications and forecasts concerning society, to which evaluation is related. At micro level the functioning of morality is presented in its three aspects: evaluative, regulative, and formative; the presence of „good“ is outlined in each of them. The author also presents here the various roles and concretizations of the „good“, as adapted to the actual relationships between economic agents that construct the market.
