Summary/Abstract: This paper will adduce, consider and study the reasons that led to the adoption of the new Law on archival materials and archives. It will represent significant changes that have occurred recently in the environment in which the archives work and which have prompted the formation of new provisions in the law, regulating the way of creation, storage, usage and long-term preservation of arcival materilas. The development of information and communication technology has announced a need to adequately protect the electronic archival materials, ensure its permanent preservation and usability and determine the conditions for its digitalization. The aim of the paper is to find out which innovations have entered into the new law, which are the differences compared to the 1997 law and which facts and circumstances have induce them.
