Summary/Abstract: Vasile Pogor the father descended from an old boyars family but, like many others, they did not maintain their rank in the history of the Principality of Moldavia. Born in 1792, he gradually ascended, through his qualities, to the highest ranks of boyars and dignities. The vornic Vasile Pogor was well known for his writings, which today have been unjustly forgotten, an enlightened spirit with a passionate temper, being considered one of the first poets of the ruins. Through marriage, various sales and exchanges, Vasile Pogor became one of the 32 big landowners in the County of Iaşi in the year of his death, 1857. He was the father of Vasile Pogor (1833-1906), one of the founding members of the “Junimea” Cultural Society, a well-known politician and writer.
