Readiness to Become Literate

Summary/Abstract: The topic of this article is readiness for reading and writing of the children from the preparatory groups in kindergartens. The focus is on diagnosing the skills in sound analysis, recognizing print letters and the level of completeness of the fi ne motive skills. It traces the achieved level of each of the three components of the readiness for studying Bulgarian language. The article indicates some alternative methodical variants which can possibly help studying Bulgarian as native language in kindergartens and the preparation of the children for mastering reading and writing as basic learning processes.
