Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper was to interpret Bruno Schulz’s short story, Cockroaches, in the context of the phenomenon of repulsion. Disgust has been interpreted as an ontological, aesthetic, and epistemological determinant of modernist literature, as well as Schulz’s fiction. The experience of disgust has been interpreted in the terms proposed by Julia Kristeva, Mary Douglas, Walter Benjamin, and the non anthropocentric humanities. It has been suggested that repulsion may be analyzed as the main element of the „topography” of Schulz’s universe: one of its main principles, both forming and destroying its matter.
