Summary/Abstract: This article tackles the issue of the translation of multilingual texts starting from Tudor Ionescu’s story Sfârşit de vară pe râu. In this text, Tudor Ionescu describes his adventures during aboat trip on the Someş river in Transylvania in 1978. He writes in standard Romanian, but there are also delightful dialectal insertions in his text, especially when in those dialogues where Tudor Ionescu lets his characters – peasants he met along the Someş river – speak an authentic language, with all the specifities of the Transylvanian dialect. To what extent are these language peculiarities a problem and, above all, what kind of problem do they pose to the translator – these are the questions this paper tries to answer.
