Summary/Abstract: The 30 zoomorphic figurines studied in this article are in the patrimony of the Buzău County Museum and were discovered during the systematic archaeological excavations carried out on the actual territory of the county, at the settlements of Aldeni, Cernăteşti commune (‘Dealul Balaurului’ place) and Coţatcu, Podgoria commune (‘Cetăţuia’ place). At both sites, significant cultural levels of Stoicani-Aldeni cultural type have been identified. The zoomorphic figurines have been analyzed and described in terms of material features (dimensions, shapes, postures, modeling and finishing techniques, fabric and decorations); existing fauna and species represented; the relevance of the archaeological context for the symbolic and cultural value; fragmentation and possible significance; functionality and symbolism. In addition scholarly opinions concerning the possible meanings of these pieces, we have tried to identify and highlight how their appearance caused important changes in prehistory.
