Summary/Abstract: Introduction: Cornea is a transparent eye structure with the greatest refractive power among the eye structures. It´s refractive power represents three quarters of the whole refraction in the human eye. Ectatic corneal diseases are a group of corneal pathologies, which are characterized by progressive corneal thinning and ectasia. This leads to the development of the irregular astigmatism with or without myopisation or other refractive and anatomical changes in the cornea. Corneal ectasias are always bilateral. This fact together with their major negative influence on the patient´s visual acuity means, that corneal ectasia are always serious vision harming diagnoses. Methods: An aim of this work is to emphasize the corneal ectasia as a group of corneal pathologies and to refer about their importance, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Keratoconus is the most frequent corneal ectasia present in our conditions. Pellucid marginal degeneration is diagnosed little less frequently and keratoglobus, Terrien´s degeneration or posterior keratoconus are rare.
