Summary/Abstract: The article presents the folk etymologies, which are contained in book “Legendy i podania Kurpiów” and are concerned of the proper names of hills, stones, clearings, forests and different places situated in Kurpie: Bycza Góra, Głaz Batorego, Krwawa Polana, Łupańce and Wzgórza Jękowe. The author juxtaposes all the folk etymologies of these names and compares them structurally and semantically with their scientific etymologies.
