Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the diffi culties with translating Grimm’s Fairy Tales into Polish. The fi rst part demonstrates the specifi c features of the original text and Bruno Bettelheim’s conclusions about “the meaning and importance of fairy tales”. The second part is a critical review of the existing Polish translations. The third part refers to the main goals of the new Polish translation. The conclusions stress that the new Polish translation should be addressed to the same recipient as the original Children’s and Household Tales, i.e., both to children and adults.
