Summary/Abstract: The main issues discussed in the text are connected to grammatical competence at all levels of FLT and its close relation with overall communicative competence. In search of a balance between the explicit (deductive, formal and theoretical) and implicit (inductive, communicative, practical) approaches, the article offers a holistic method for the teaching of grammar, including three levels(which basically correspond to the levels of foreign language command according to the Common European Framework): foreign language learning is effectuated by means of a smooth transition from deductive to inductive teaching methods.
