Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the exhibition named ‘Mitoraj in Pompeii’ in the archaeological site of Pompeii. In this exhibition in Pompeii, as one of the most important sculptors of contemporary sculpture, Igor Mitoraj’s 30 statues, which produced between 1980 and 2014, were exhibited in the areas and structures of the ancient Pompeii city for one year. In this article, the history of the archaeological site of Pompeii, the sculpture of Mitoraj via parody and pastiche concepts and the ‘Mitoraj in Pompeii’ exhibition are examined respectively . The sculptures of Mitoraj, which the form language of the Neoclassical was used, require to reconsider the Neoclassical period. Extensive excavations in the archaeological site of Pompeii began in the Neoclassical period and excavations and the remainings that emerged in these excavations have been a source of inspiration for the architects and artists of the period. Therefore, the exhibition of ‘Mitoraj in Pompeii’ makes it necessary to ask some questions and reconsider the history based on the data provided by the Pompeii archaeological site.
