Summary/Abstract: The subject of this paper is set phrasess which, alongside their primary semantic realisations, also develop one or more secondary ones. The corpus for this research is phraseological material excerpted from The Phraseological Dictionary of the Croatian or Serbian Language by Josip Matešić. The aim of this paper is to determine the relationship between the polysemy of set phrases and the polysemantic structure of the lexemes which participate in their structure, i.e. to examine the correlation between the number of meanings of phraseological units and the number of meanings of their individual components. The examination of the lexical structure of polysemantic set phrases is therefore aimed at determining whether the lexemes which develop the largest number of meanings in Serbian are the most frequent constituents of polysemantic set phrases as well as which thematic groups provide for the abovementioned lexemes.
