Summary/Abstract: From the moment humanity has existed, it exhibits a scientific approach in order to make sense of existence, life and nature, and sometimes interprets it with a supernatural power by means of fear and despair, whether or not it shares a sense of reality. These beliefs, which are also considered as cultural values, do not feed solely on a single source, while some feed on religious sources, some others carry marks from nature and supernatural features. Among these beliefs and practices, evil eye and luck are also important and carry traces of many subjects. In our study, we are going to examine the reflections of beliefs and practies about “whammy” and “fortune”, which are among important beliefs with respect to folklore and cultural values, on Shafi and Alawi Societies in Bingöl and Tunceli axis. In addition to written sources, oral sources are also used with field research and reviews. In related beliefs about “whammy” and “fotune”, it is seen that there are traces of pagan beliefs and ancestral cult extending from pre-Islamic periods with different beliefs and rituals and pre-Islamic religions.
