135 years Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC)

Summary/Abstract: In the article are presented essential aspects of the international activity of the Bulgarian Red Cross during the latest years, reaffirming the position of the Organization as an esteemed participant and partner in the International RC/RC Community. BRC pays contribution in preparation and realization of the different forums of the Movement: world-wide, continental and regional level, as the Balkan conferences, in applying their decisions and messages. The Organization includes itself in platforms and networks directed to achieve rational application of the Red Cross members and voluntaries potential. It was seen with ENDOV – The European Network for the Development, ESP – The European Social Platform and so on. BRC is partner in project as „Modern Approaches for Prevention amongst children in Europe“, „European Voluntary Humanitarian Aid Corps“, „Safer Europe by higher qualified Lifeguards“ etc. BRC operates on 18 framework agreements and 3 project–related agreements for cooperation with other National Societies. They provide for mutual change of good practices, ideas and know – how, joint actions, joint realization of programmes, support for vulnerable people in other countries, in religions of conflicts, disasters and crises. Along with that useful expert opinions and material help was received by BRC from other national societies. During the last years, combining national efforts and international experience, BRC enlarges and intensifies works for preparedness to meet possible growth of the refugees coming to Bulgaria. The agreement for collaboration in realization of the project „Lobbying for improvement of the conditions for reception and integration of refugees in Bulgaria“, signed in 2011 was directed just to contribute in that field. BRC repeatedly expressed its solidarity with the victims of disasters occurred throughout the world like devastating earthquakes in Japan, Haiti, the drought in Horn of Africa, the floods in Pakistan etc. The correspondent national societies were supported also by material help, according to the opportunities of the Organization. The activity of the BRC for support of the vulnerable people in Bulgaria, as well for the responsible answer to the disasters in the world and the following humanitarian relief to the victims receives deserved international recognition.
