Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the strategic line, elaborated in the document „The Netherlands Red Cross Towards 2020“. It was formulated on the basis of analysis of changes occurring in global scale, in the western world and the Netherlands. It was taken in consideration the recapitulation of the experience of Netherlands Red Cross /NLRC/ and the new ideas in „Strategy 2020“ of IFRC/RC. The adopted policy of NLRC expresses the strivings to work more rationally, to concentrate on the important tasks, connected with possible emergency situations. In the document NLRC points out the following strategic tasks: 1. Limiting the impact of emergency situations; 2. Strengthening resilience; 3. Promoting respect and willingness to help. NLRC attaches a primary role to the preparedness for the First Aid. During a disaster or crisis NLRC will assist people in meeting their basic needs: shelter, water, food, access to medical care, security and restoring family links. It pays a special attention to the resilience. It should be assisted that more people and communities be able to help themselves. NLRC will support them in building networks that are essential for the good assistance, foremost in the preparation for emergency and strengthening resilience. Effective cooperation, humanitarian diplomacy, strong society: those are the approaches, which NLRC is going to apply in achievement of its strategic goals. The Red Cross members, volunteers, donors; those are the basic forces, the efforts of which NLRC unites in the movement forward. It points out the significance of youth participation and the coordination with other NGOs, developing humanitarian activity. It appreciates expert advice from partners as knowledge centres and corporate world. NLRC will continue the elaboration of social aid problems, closely connected with the strategy „Towards 2020“. The international activities will remain an integral part of the future strategy of NLRC. It will expand the expertise in its significant aid abroad. According to NLRC, the strategic process is always dynamic in character. This implies that the Organization will continue to fine-tune of the guidelines and priorities on the basis of the strategic aims. Defining strategy, organizational system and practical work correspondingly to the new conditions, NLRC steps up decisively to cope with the challenges of the present and future. We believe the collaboration between NLRC and BRC will continue and will have new concrete results in our assistance in favour of all who need it.
