Summary/Abstract: This article aims to present the inclusion of a rarely used hymnographic text, visualized in the fresco decoration in the dome of the prothesis of the Piva Monastery. Here we see an illustration of a chant based upon text taken from the Dogmatikon of the Theotokos. A few monuments dated from the beginning of the 17th century exist where the same text has been placed onto the scroll of one of the hymnographers – either St John of Damascus or St Cosmas of Maiuma. The rear inclusion of this hymnographic text in fresco programmes raises the question of a potentially common provenance of the workshops, which will be a subject of further research.
