THE LEADER APPROACH AS AN EFFECTIVE INSTRUMENT OF THE EU COMMON AGRICULTURAL POLICY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE RURAL AREAS

Summary/Abstract: The article aims to present the Leader approach as an effective instrument of the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to ensure sustainable rural development. The situation and the problems in the development of the rural areas of Bulgaria in the context of the EU CAP are examined. The essentials, characteristics and basic tools of the Leader approach are presented, as well as the possibilities of their combined impact at local level in order to build sustainable local capacity with the help of the Local action groups (LAGs) and to improve the quality of life in rural areas through implementation of the local development strategies.
