Summary/Abstract: Everyone who lived in Czechoslovakia before November 1989 knew his name. Streets, schools, army units and also tram and bus stops were named after him. The communist propaganda made Captain Otakar Jaros a legend. It took a lot of effort. Jaros fought and fell at the Eastern Front while defending Sokolovo, but he was essentially a First-republic patriot with Masaryk ideals. What were the ups and downs accompanying the Jaros cult?
