Summary/Abstract: The figural monuments to the first workers’ president began to appear in Czechoslovakia after his death, at first mostly in his birthplace of Moravia. Prague did not build its stone memorial until 1973. It might at first seem surprising that it took the capital whole two decades after Gottwald’s death to unveil the monument while many lesser towns already had one.
