Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the situation of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the Republic of Macedonia from the legislative point of view. According to WHO, in the last decade in all countries – both developed and those, which are in the process of development, the use of CAM rapidly increased. Today, some specific forms of CAM play an important role for health care and can be seen as a good example for reforms in the health care sector spread worldwide. In order to provide harmonization with international law aspects, we need to know the current situation regarding the use of CAM. Therefore, this paper analyzes to what extend the complementary and alternative medicine is present at the moment and whether the law regulations concerning this issue exist. The results suggest that the terms such as complementary and alternative medicine do not exist in the national law legislation, although the use of homeopathic and traditional herbal drugs is accepted, described and regulated as practice in providing health care for general population. Non-qualified professionals do not have rights to practice alternative medicine, which brought additional problems for overall practice of all forms of CAM in Macedonia. The ongoing process on EU accession shall reflect also the need to follow EU policies and legislation related to free movement of people, goods and profession regarding implementation of CAM practices in the country.
