Summary/Abstract: This research is carried out to explore groups and categories of mosques, and number of imams and muezzins are needed for these mosques in Turkey. To do this, firstly mosques are classified into four groups and a score is given to each mosque according to its importance and characteristics. Secondly, mosques are categorized within their groups depending on their five characteristics including their scores. Finally, quantity of imams and muezzins are needed for these mosques are gauged. Data from “Mosque Data Bank at the Presidency of Religious Affairs” are mainly used in this study. Reliability and validity of results from data analyses are controlled in a field-work carried out in ten cities including Samsun, Trabzon, Erzurum, Bingöl, Kahramanmaraş, Nevşehir, Bolu, Edirne, Çanakkale and Denizli. Results are revealed that in a full-time status 70,530 imams and 11,725 muezzins are needed in 76,922 mosques throughout Turkey.
