History of Pharmacy, a Science closely linked to the History of Medicine, Chemistry, Biology and of other sciences

Summary/Abstract: Regarding our subject, renowned pharmaco- historians like Mr. Ovidiu Maior, Pharmacist, Doctor in History ofPharmacy (nonagenarian residing in Germany) in his Doctoral thesis submitted in 1979 in Târgu-Mureş, stated that: “Knowledge of the past of this science, a branch of the history of sciences, finds its importance in the patriotic education of young people who want to embrace the career of pharmacist or physician, and those interested in these sciences. Professor Alexandru Ionescu-Matiu (1883–1975), pharmacist and chemist, famous university scholar, in his manuscript Essay of Pharmacy History, said: “... chemistry remains an inexhaustible source, able to solve many theoretical and practical problems, but pharmacy is a science that depends on chemistry and its development”.In the paper, we highlight some aspects regarding pharmacy and the history of pharmacy, science and discipline of pharmaceutical university education, in correlation with other branches of science.
