Summary/Abstract: The article presents the directions, programs and methods of assessing the quality of libraries. Three areas of evaluation were assessed: library functionality, user satisfaction, and library impact on the environment. All these types of assessments concern the quality of both traditional and digital resources and services, and provide a comprehensive set of key and complementary elements for such evaluations. It also focused on presenting the most important areas of such research and quality assessment programs implemented in the world and in Poland.
