Summary/Abstract: Major Vasile Cijevschi was a significant personality in the process of unifying Bessarabia with mother country Romania. As an active military in Russian Imperial Army, between 1904 and 1905, he took part in the Russian-Japanese war and in World War 1 in the military events on the Romanian front. Between 1917 and 1918, Vasile Cijevschi mobilized Moldovan military personnel to create the military structures of Moldovan National Army. He participated in the Military Congress, he supported and summoned, together with other officers the Country Council that was to become the parliament of Democratic Republic of Moldova, and he supported and voted for the Union of Bessarabia to Romania.
