Summary/Abstract: The Warsaw club offer is very rich and diverse and therefore for any club to become known and survive depends largely on the managers’ skill to find an adequate niche. To create a club which is both a place of resistance against a broadly understood mainstream, may be both an ideological and marketing choice. The development of the offer and style of any club must be a result of economic and aesthetic factors, and the owners and managers of Hydrozagadka and Spółdzielnia Socjalna Pogłos that are described in this text, need to face them. The research was also conducted in ADA Puławska and Pracovnia clubs and was based on participant observation carried out during the working hours of the selected establishment. Moreover, the researchers conducted a series of in-depth and impressionist interviews both with the managers, artists hosted by the researched establishments and audiences. The purpose of the research was to answer a question how places of resistance are created, how their brand is developed and managed so as to survive in the competitive environment of Warsaw. In the text, the author compares the two clubs, the programme and activity of which may seemingly be regarded as very similar, but, upon closer look, they represent extremely different approaches to resistance, alternative, mainstream and social engagement.
