Summary/Abstract: Contemporary countries are increasingly aware of the need to change the way of energy consumption. For this reason, concern about energy security, the social and economic effects of high-energy prices, and the increased awareness of the climate change effects led to improvements in energy efficiency worldwide. The household sector can significantly contribute to the key goals of energy and climate policy achievement. It can contribute to reducing the energy intensity of the economy and the country’s energy dependence, the greenhouse gas emissions, as well as meeting the climate goals. The paper analyses the basic aggregate indicators of the final energy consumption efficiency in Serbian household sector. Serbia’s energy intensity is almost twice as high as the European average and it appearsbecause of irrational energy consumption in households and industry and widespread obsolete technologies. The paper follows the trend of Total and Relative residential final energy consumption, Residential final energyconsumption per capita and the correlation between Gross Domestic Product per capita and Final energy consumption of Serbian household sector. Although energy efficiency in this sector is lower than in the EU countries, residential energy consumption is nevertheless declining slightly and it is not conditionedby the country’s economic development.
