Summary/Abstract: The European Parliament’s Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs, at the request of the European Parliament's Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI Committee), elaborated a study titled „Building Competence in Commercial Law in the Member States” . The Study’s purpose was to improve knowldegde of cross-border commercial contracts and their operation in theory and practice, expecially within European Union Member States.Almost all of the measures suggested for building competence in commercial law are cross-border measures, in spite of the title chosen for the study. At the end, the improvement of legal education in the field of private international law is mentioned as the „last” measure which should be undertaken towards improving competence in commercial law. This article looks to check how the Romanian legal system may comply with the recommendations proposed, with a special focus on legal education, with the purpose of outlining that this measure is far from being last or the least important.
