Summary/Abstract: The history of the Google Agreement on books digitalization started in 2004, when Google announced that it entered into agreements with several libraries having as subject matter the scanning of books, including books in the protection period provided by the United States Copyright Law, which are in their collection. In this respect, several authors and editors started a lawsuit against the Google company, showing that the scanning of books represented an infringement of copyrights since this operation had been carried out without the consent of the holders of rights. Under these circumstances, the parties opted for the negotiation of an Agreement regulating the copyrights issues with implications in the Google Books Project.
