Summary/Abstract: The article regards the problem of public interest as the State Owned Companies’ (SOCs’) objective. SOCs operate according to the same rules as private companies and generally their aim is to achieve gains. However, SOCs as the companies that main shareholder is the state are supposed to operate in public interest. The aim of the article is to decide if Polish SOCs’ objective is to realize public interest or if the public interest is realized by achieving other objectives. All findings are based on classic functional research and consists of regulation analysis and large sample analysis conducted among SOCs’ management and supervisory boards’ members and officials of Polish Ministry of Treasury that supervise SOCs.
