Summary/Abstract: The recent world fi nance crisis shows that intense debate and negotiation alone can only lead to a hardly controllable political and economic crisis. The essay outlines how far the Church can contribute with its social-moral services and social-charitable support to minimize such financial and economic crises. Money is a very sensitive issue when one considers the moral character of industry. Indeed, countries are endeavoring to create an extrinsic moral guarantee for the environment as law. Should there not also be an intrinsic moral guarantee of life’s true values by strengthening the people’s social and moral independence, in line with the Church’s teaching? Over and above a country’s absence of social and moral culture, arises the problem of investors’ great fear of social unrest. Such unrest can quickly spread to industry and social service organizations. Efficient social help to cover illness, unemployment, old age, private confl icts, etc., must be guaranteed. The social services provided by the Church help to secure the necessary substitution of these economical requirements.
