Summary/Abstract: With this article, the National Music Academy “Professor Pancho Vladigerov” marks the 90-year birth anniversary of the eminent Bulgarian composer Dimitar Tapkov (1929 – 2011). Professor and lector on symphonic orchestration and composition, he was also the Academy Rector (1979 – 1980). His Peace Cantata (1976) brought him international recognition – First Prize at the International Rostrum of Composers – Paris. He is an author of symphonies (Sinfonia breve, Symphony No. 2 for Voice and Orchestra, Microsymphony), orchestra works (Concerto for Orchestra, “A Tale of Belasitsa”, September Overture, 1876 Lamento, Symphonic Epitaphs, Rhapsody, Prelude, Passacaglia and Burlesque), instrumental concertos, chamber music, solo instrument sonatas (for every symphonic instrument), etc. This composer’s style is characteristic with concise thought, laconicism and clarity of form.
