Summary/Abstract: In the first part of his article, the author refers to the abundant tradition of utopian thought in England, tradition old as the industrial revolution itself, and attempts to situate William Morris and his novels The Dream of John Ball and News from Nowhere within it. In the second part, with reference to the mentioned Morris’s novels, dream and vision as specific means of presentation of utopian contents are discussed. And in conclusion, the author, starting from Mannheim’s concept of counterutopia, suggests the connections - both in structure and in plot - among News from Nowhere and Edward Bellamy’s utopian novel Looking backward 2000-1888.
