Summary/Abstract: Small and medium enterprises have great importance for the development of the national economy. Their influence is particularly important in the process of globalization, because, thanks to the flexibility and capabilities of rapid adaptation, it can provide survival and growth in dynamic conditions.The subject of the work is an analysis of the possibilities of developing and improving the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises in the rural areas of the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aim of the work is pointing out the possibility of developing entrepreneurship and small and medium enterprises in the function of reviving rural areas. The underlying hypothesis of work is that entrepreneurship is a significant factor of economic development, which confirms the positive experience of developed countries. The particular importance of work is related to modern development concepts, such as the concept of rural development.
