Summary/Abstract: Small and medium-sized enterprises present the key factor of economicdevelopment of the state, because they employ the largest part of the working population and so significantly influence the generation of gross domestic product. Furthermore, they solve the problem of unemployment, raise living standards and strengthen the international competitive position of the countrythrough export.In order to point оut the importance of the devolopment of the SME sector, this paper presents the results of the state and prospects ofdevelopment of the SME sector in the Republic of Srpska. The basic premise of the research is that the SME sector is a particularly important factor in the economic development of Republic of Srpska, having a a significant potential for further growth and development.
