Summary/Abstract: The paper considers the cultural conceptualization of financial behavior on the black market in Serbia during the occupation in World War II. The basic question is whether the monetary system at the time was limited only to money, or if it included certain commodities as currency. In other environments and other historical periods it is possible to determine the existence of goods which represented a universal method of payment or exchange. By analyzing newspapers from the period, as well as data from state agencies which existed at the time (the Ministry of finance, the Ministry of economy, the Ministry of law) I have attempted to find traces of such phenomena or such processes and determine the reactions that state administration had to them.
