Summary/Abstract: From an ethnic point of view, the Republic of Moldova is a multinational state. According to the census conducted in 2004, the indigenous population constitutes 71.49%, which, according to the law, 69.62% of the total population declared themselves Moldovans and 1.87% Romanians. Other minority ethnic communities account for 28.51% of the total population. The culture of each ethnic community is different and unique in its own way, preserving its own identity. The interaction of each of the main ethnic communities in the Republic of Moldova is based on cultural diversity – language, customs, traditions, folklore treasure. In the Republic of Moldova, the reform of the linguistic legislation is a highly politicized field. Even the correct name of the language - Romanian is being politicized. Respect for the linguistic and cultural rights of cohabiting minorities cannot bean impediment to the constitution of the civic nation, which can only occur if the representatives of these minorities know the state language.
