Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to reconstruct one of the dimensions of the life of families of persons with intellectual disability, concerning the fortunes of these families’ wards following the death of the latter’s parents (or the situation in which parents, due to their age, will be unable to ensure suitable care for their disabled offspring). The research material used in this report comprises the personal experiences of parents (guardians) of disabled persons. Unstructured, semi-directive interviews were conducted with persons representing this category of respondents. Analysis of the research material is based on the rules of grounded theory methodology. The research conducted revealed that for the parents and guardians of disabled persons, a particularly important yet at the same time extremely problematic issue is the future of their wards, a future which they often perceive in different ways. As such, the research served as a basis for identifying strategies of “(not) coping with the future” of disabled children, as applied by their parents and guardians.
