Summary/Abstract: The paper describes the characteristics of students with hyperkinetic disorder (ADHD) and outlines the basic symptoms of hyperkinetic disorder: hyperactivity, impulsivity, and attention deficit. There are particularly emphasized the exaggerated variability in reactions to situations and problems of poor regulation and inhibition of behavior. Learning disabilities, poor school achievement, peer problems, and behavioral control problems are commonplace for children with ADHD. Misunderstanding of characteristics of the disorder itself and the child's feelings, as well as inability of the child to appropriately cope with daily demands of the school, are met on a daily basis in the current school practice. In order for students to understand their surroundings and cope with everyday situations, it is imperative for them to acquire social skills. A lack of knowledge of effective strategies for working with students with hyperkinetic disorder can negatively affect the social behavior and academic achievement of that group of students. Therefore, the paper points out the need to apply adequate teaching and intervention strategies in the educational work with this population of students.
