THE INVASION OF RUSSIAN ARMIES IN TIGHINA, 19-24 JUNE 1992

Summary/Abstract: The War of Dniester, 1990-1992, represents a tragic chapter in the history of our people. Between June 19th – 24th, in Tighina (Bender), there was a great battle against Russian separatism and expansionism which represent a permanent threat to all the Romanians in Moldova over the Prut River. In this decisive battle, the Russian Federation,notwithstanding the U.S. and EU decisions, invaded Tighina with military units of the 14th Russian Army, using tanks, artillery and mounted troops. Hundreds of soldiers, fighters and civilians fell during the fights for the independence of the Republic of Moldova; yet, Tighina itself and other combat areas in Cocieri-Dubăsari, Coșnița-Doroțcaia were not surrendered to the enemy.
