Summary/Abstract: Ștefan Neaga (1900-1951), descendant of a family of folk musicians, became a true professional after graduating from the Bucharest Royal Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (1927 - piano, 1933 – composition), and improving his abilities at l`Ecole Normalle de Musique from Paris (1937-1939). Many works of the young composer were appreciated at the „George Enescu” Composition Competition (1934, 1936, the 1st, 3rd grades honourable mentions). The Violin Sonata h-moll, in which one can feel the influences of the romantic musical tradition, denotes the characteristic feature of the Romanian composition school in the interwar period: the fusion of European and autochthonous factors.
