Summary/Abstract: The reconstruction of the Polish linguo-cultural view of wheat proposed here rests on the principles of the cognitive definition, which goes beyond the tenets of structural linguistics, takes into account all the connotations evoked by a given expression, as well as the relationship between the object’s name and the object itself. It is non-encyclopedic in nature. The data analysed here are of the linguistic type (lexis, phraseology, and stereotypical texts of various genres, such as riddles, proverbs, auguries, songs, tales, legends, written poetry), as well as of the co-linguistic type (ethnographic records of beliefs and practices), and come from the archives of the Dictionary of Folk Stereotypes and Symbols. The dictionary’s volume on plants is now under preparation.
