Summary/Abstract: In this study I propose a presentation of the Romanian monastic life in Alba county: the monastic life of the sketches. For a more objective reconstruction, a multifactorial analysis was necessary, taking into account both the traditions (oral or written) of the place, as well as from Hungarian and German sources (what was written about the monasteries in Transylvania, Maramureş, Crişana or Banat in historiography was predominantly the result of Hungarian and German historiography). The bibliography of historical monuments published at the beginning of the 20th century, apart from a series of schematisms of the Orthodox and Greek-Catholic churches, does not contain any other cited works or Romanian authors. The mentioned lists do not inventory the attestations of the missing places that are known from the local tradition that they existed and the fact that these lists contain very few references of the wooden churches. The first synthesis tests in the form of primary records will be made in the interwar period. We will present a list of the monastic settlements that functioned as a sketch, their role in preserving the national culture and spirituality as well as their identification with the interests of the Romanian nation. The second part of the work is intended for a micro-monograph of the old sketch from Cioara.
