Summary/Abstract: Our study aims to analyze the novel The Disoriented by Amin Maalouf to see how the genius of the author is able to describe the Eastern and Western societies, separated by a deep fault line. The first part, entitled War, the source of all evils, focuses on the tragedy of the war which kills the most beautiful feeling, the friendship, as well as the loss of identity of the characters who have fled into exile. The second part, The gap between East and West, insists on the dialogue between Adam and Nidal, which offers readers the image of the contemporary Eastern society. The two parts of our analysis will have as common point the interest on the narrative perspective and the technique of writing, which make the novel highly successful.
