Summary/Abstract: The issues presented in this paper are merely some signs of Calvin’s vast organisational work concerning ecclesiastical and public matters, through which, Geneva, a mediocre town, began to develop internally both on the spiritual and ethical levels, and within a short period of time became one of the most organised cities. It is an example also that by the cooperation of state and church one may build such a healthy society, which bears within itself the potential of spiritual as well as economical growth. For the accomplishment of this the specific ‘software’ of the time, i.e. the power of divine teaching which permeated the confession and the ethical legal system, was needed. This is what Calvin observed, and by a fortunate coincidence, it was realized by the local magistrate as well. Geneva therefore made full use of the chance for political, social, economical and – last but not least – ecclesiastical development offered to it by the Lord of history through the Reformation and the Reformer.
