Summary/Abstract: The paper presents selected findings of the author’s long-term research of Czech 20th century teenage boys fiction. It concentrates on the work of Jaroslav Novák (31st January 1894 − 14th March 1965), born 120 years ago. The paper analyses Novák’s literary debut Skautská srdce (Boy Scout’s Hearts; 1921), answering the question whether and to what extent Novák was able to contribute to the innovation of the poetics of Czech adventure novel. In the fiction text under scrutiny, features of educational and initiation novel are identified, and the initiation myth of Novák’s novel is compared with the fictions both of his contemporary Jaroslav Foglar and today writer Miloš Zapletal.
