Socio-political determinants of the Czech university sport

Summary/Abstract: Historically, a University sports movement is the oldest form of the modern sports movement, which was developed on the base of the student professional organization. The aim of this paper is to briefly analyze the the context of socio-political and specific conditions in relation with ’student state‘ feature in Czech university sport in terms of Austro-Hungary monarchy, democratic and socialist Czechoslovak Republic. There is a specific feature of the Czech university sport which is a symbiosis of sport-science research activities in physical education, acceptance of modern physical education system and nontraditional sports.
