Summary/Abstract: In this article we will present the way in which the development of international regulation designed a modern imagine for sea carriage of goods. From the United Nation Convention on Multimodal Transport of Goods to the Rotterdam Rules, the regulations of maritime transport offer a considerable array of possibilities. Taking into account the importance of transport in an interconnected world, the arguments presented here stress the changes brought by these provisions. We will also present how over the past century, the standards of liability were gradually changed according to the international standards. Finally, we will underline the importance of uniform rules and the need to overcome the existing uncertainties and lacunae from the legal framework.
