Summary/Abstract: In order to provide favorable premises for preventing and combating economic and financial criminality and developing a healthy business environment, professional accountants have a duty to manifest themselves with increasing responsibility for the satisfaction of professional, ethical and deontological requirements, as well as for the expression of respect and attachment to serve the public interest, defined as "the collective welfare of the community and institutions, served by professionals in accounting." In civilized communities, professional accountants play an important role in society, which is why their responsibility can not be reduced to the satisfaction the individual needs of a customer or state, but it must be reported, primarily to the public interest.This research paper deals with the role of financial accounting auditing in identifying criminal activities in the economic field. To this end, the objectives of the financial accounting audit, support for the financial accounting system, as well as possible risks, frauds and errors, specific to the financial accounting audit, are presented.
