Selected issues in toponymics in the contextof settlement changes in the municipality of Szadek

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of research on toponymic changes that took place within the area of the present urban-rural municipality of Szadek as a result of settlement development, with a particular focus on various forms of spatial development as well as political and administrative factors. The study addresses the question of the origin and changes in the names of settlement units or their parts in different historical periods: from the Middle Ages to modern times. At the local level, the research enabled identification of various toponomastic types and a number of interesting relationships and regularities in the context of geographical and historical transformations of settlement in this area.
